Choir

Love the liturgy and like to sing? The synagogue choir might be just the place for you. The choir practices monthly for most of the year and weekly leading up to high holidays, the annual Shabbat Shira musical service, or other important events. Through its singing, the choir helps motivate the entire congregation to sing and participate. While some pieces are learned to share with an audience, the choir and the rabbi invite participation from the congregation during services. No singing experience is necessary, and you don’t have to read music – more voices are always welcome. If you’re interested in learning more about the choir, contact Janet Encarnacion.

Ritual Band

The band enhances holidays such as Simchat Torah, Shabbat Shira, and Chanukah by playing all types of Jewish music, from Klezmer to liturgical to modern Israeli songs. The band usually rehearse a few times before each performance, and band members are encouraged to help select the music. Current members include a percussionist, violinist, keyboard player, flutist, a guitar player, and sometimes a vocalist. Membership fluctuates depending on who is available, but has included a percussionist, violinist, keyboard player, flutist, a guitar player, and sometimes a vocalist. Other instruments would be welcome.

Synagogue Band

The synagogue rock band includes an eclectic group of singers and musicians who love to get together and jam. The band performs at the synagogue open house and hosts a winter party (pictured above). Anyone is eligible to participate for one song or many! Musicians and vocalists work together to choose songs. Selections have included everything from 50’s rock cover songs to current songs, folk songs to rock ballads, and everything in between. The band is always interested in incorporating new musicians — recent participants have played the keyboards, drums, guitar, saxophone, fiddle, ukulele, and harmonica. Don’t be put off if you’re a beginner. The band welcomes all participants — the goal is to have fun creating music! Groupies are also welcome!
