Interest Groups

Interest Groups

In addition to formal committees which manage the synagogue, we have several other groups which organize support for congregants in times of need, social events, and gatherings around a particular interest.

Community Support and Hospitality

Contact: Lee Judson

Congregation Agudas Achim prides itself in being a caring community engaged in gemilut chasidim (acts of loving kindness). This particular group of mensches organizes shiva minyans, check in on homebound members, provide rides and meals for congregants in need, conduct check-in phone calls on members, and generally are on the lookout for ways to support congregants in need. Joining the mensches is an easy way to get involved. Tasks are usually limited in scope and time commitment and provide opportunities for social action based on Jewish ethics.

Choir

Contact: Janet Encarnacion

Love the liturgy and like to sing? The synagogue choir might be just the place for you. The choir practices monthly for most of the year and weekly leading up to high holidays, the annual Shabbat Shira musical service, or other important events. Through its singing, the choir helps motivate the entire congregation to sing and participate. While some pieces are learned to share with an audience, the choir and the rabbi invite participation from the congregation during services. No singing experience is necessary, and you don’t have to read music – more voices are always welcome.

Book Club

Contact: Cathy Cruz

Bibliophiles are invited to join the Book Club, which meets monthly on Zoom.

Dungeons and Dragons

Contact: Scott Judson

Agudas Achim has its own D&D club! The group sometimes meets in person and sometimes on Zoom.
