Watch for registration materials! MARK YOUR CALENDARS… SAVE THESE DATES…CELEBRATING THE AGUDAS ACHIM COMMUNITY!
To volunteer to help organize the block party, please contact the synagogue office 508-222-2243 or office@agudasma.org. Attention Vav Class Students and Parents Last workshop is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 5:00 – 7:30 pm at the Wechterman-Nerenberg home (check your directory or call the office for directions). Pizza will be provided, please bring a side dish or salad to share. Lower School Highlights Julia Levine, one of our Madrichim, had the chance to visit our lower school students to talk about what it was like for her when she spent an extended period of time in the hospital when she was eight years old and had cancer. She told the students that receiving cards and gifts from friends and family really lifted her spirits and helped her to know that people cared about her. As part of Mitzvah morning, Sunday, May 4, 2008, the children in lower school will be making cards and filling gift bags that will be brought to children at Dana Farber. We are asking that each lower school family bring in an item or two that will go in the bag. Please check below to see what is needed. And a great big thank you to Julia for sharing her story with us! Kitah Gan/Aleph: Questions, questions, questions…Kitah Gan/Aleph loves to ask questions. Not just any questions but really thoughtful and thought provoking questions. We feel like they will be ready for the Passover Seder when we are all encouraged to ask. Our students had the chance to act out the plagues and pretended to be Pharaoh when he said, “No, No, No, I will not let them go!” The students played with Mah Nishtanah finger puppets, and pretended to be slaves when they build “Egyptian cities” out of blocks. Each student in Gan/Aleph is asked to bring in 2 coloring/activity books for Mitzvah Morning. Kitah Bet/Gimel: Our Kitah Bet/Gimel students have been very busy learning about the work that Heifer International does around the world. They led the lower school in a rap about Heifer during Havdalah. They have designed and decorated Canvas shopping bags that they will sell on Mitzvah Morning. The cost of the bags is $7.50 each with the proceeds going to Heifer. Please consider buying a bag! Upper School Highlights This year the students in Upper school will be fully participating in Mitzvah Morning. Accompanied by an adult, students can sign up for most of the service projects. In anticipation that all Upper School students will be participating, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 5, 2008. Kitah Daled: The Kitah Daled class continued their study of the Exodus and painted original designs onto ceramic seder plates. These plates were then brought to the art studio where they were fired. Each student had a high quality keepsake that they will use for years to come at their own seders. Kitah Hey: The students in Kitah Hey continued talking about what makes Shabbat so special as they talked about the differences between the Shabbat Amidah and the one recited on weekdays. They also learned how a Chumash is organized and hunted for specific chapters and verses. They found the verses that are contained in the Mezzuzah. A giant THANK YOU to Betsy Fine, parent, congregant and artist extraordinaire, for volunteering to come in and work with the students to make their own Mezzuzot from clay. Kitah Vav: Kitah Zayin: Kitah Zayin students celebrated the “wedding” of their two bears early in the month of April. After studying about Jewish weddings, the students wrote the ceremony and took part in the celebration. On a much more serious note, the students have been watching Shindler’s List. The students have been discussing the movie with Rabbi Elyse and have been handling the subject matter in a mature and thoughtful manner. Thank you to the adults who have been able to come in and read with our students this month: David Lubiner and David Nerenberg. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas about the school, please don’t hesitate to contact Kim Bodemer 508-222-2243 or principal@agudasma.org Gift of Israel Gift of Israel enrollment has begun for the 2007-2008 school year!
